Chris Barron

Country Head

Responsible for the delivery of Tatu City, Chris joined Rendeavour in 2011 and has held the positions of COO, Head of Sales and Operations Manager.

Prior to Rendeavour, Chris worked for the United Nations World Food Programme, where he served in the Darfur region of Sudan, Somalia, the West Bank and Gaza and Pakistan. Prior to that, he worked in the humanitarian sector with the HALO Trust, in Cambodia, Angola, Eritrea and Abkhazia. Chris started his career with the Australian Defence Force, where he served in the Australian Regular Army as an infantry officer.

Chris is the Chairman of the Rendeavour CSR Committee.

Preston Mendenhall

Chief Operating Officer

Preston has more than 20 years' experience in emerging markets. For Rendeavour, he leads sales, marketing and business development across the company’s new city developments. At Tatu City, he manages daily operations of the 5,000-acre Special Economic Zone in Kenya.

Previously, Preston was Head of Marketing & Public Affairs for Renaissance Group, the Moscow-based emerging markets investment firm. Prior to Renaissance, Preston was Vice President for Strategy of Russian Standard, Russia’s leading global consumer brand with interests in financial services and alcohol beverage production and distribution.

From 1993-2006, Preston was a producer and correspondent for NBC News, covering global events in the Soviet successor states, Europe, Central and South Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Preston is a graduate of Cornell University and Phillips Exeter Academy.

Justus Kariuki

Justus’ 16-year experience in diverse roles in the public sector prepared him to manage Tatu City’s stakeholder and government relations, while aligning this private sector development with the government’s development agenda. At Tatu City, Justus has led the operationalisation of Tatu City as the first Special Economic Zone in Kenya.

Prior to Tatu City, Justus was Senior Director at the President’s Delivery Unit, Republic of Kenya.

Justus has graduate qualifications in Economics, Human Resource Management and Leadership & Governance.

David has over six years' experience in the real estate industry. He has previously worked as a real estate advisor with other leading real estate companies and as a financial advisor in Old Mutual.

Rehema Nyambura

Rehema is an experienced marketing professional, having worked in marketing for over 15 years across Kenyan and multi-national consumer brands. A market-attuned growth strategist with deep consumer insight, Rehema’s work has spanned the East African market with a focus on marketing trends, creative strategies, revenue growth, communication, new product development, and key stakeholder engagement.

Prior to Tatu City, Rehema worked in senior positions at Unga Group Limited as Marketing Manager; Weetabix East Africa Limited as Regional Trade & Brand Manager, Eastern Africa; and Kenafric Industries as Brand Manager, East Africa.

Rehema holds a BA in Psychology from University of Nairobi, a BBM from University of Sunderland and is currently pursuing an MBA at U.S.I.U.

Tito Oduk

Tito is a seasoned real estate professional with expertise in sales, letting, project operations management and property management.

A retired Kenya Rugby XVs International, Tito oversees the industrial operations in Tatu City with a focus on sales, infrastructure delivery coordination and stakeholder management of Tatu Industrial Park.

Prior to Tatu City, Tito worked with Knight Frank Kenya and Acorn Group Ltd in various capacities.

Tito is a graduate of University of Nairobi and speaks a bit of German.

Wambu has more than two decades of infrastructure and development experience in Kenya and international markets.

Wambu joined Tatu City from Acorn Holdings Africa, where he was Head of Development and Senior Project Manager, responsible for several well-known commercial and residential developments in Kenya. Prior to Acorn, Wambu worked for 10 years at Pell Frischmann Consultants designing and delivering UK national infrastructure projects.

A self-professed bridge fanatic, Wambu holds an MSc in International Construction Management & Engineering and a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering with Architecture from University of Leeds.

Samuel Gathukia

Samuel has managed multidisciplinary construction teams in the planning, design and construction of critical infrastructure projects. He has been involved in a wide array of projects cutting across the various stages of the project life cycle, from master planning, conceptualization, feasibility, preliminary and detailed engineering stages to construction, commissioning and closeout.

Prior to joining Tatu City, Samuel worked with an engineering consultancy firm, a project management firm and a Tier 1 construction firm.

Samuel is registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Wamagata Nduru

Urban Planning and Design Manager

Wamagata manages urban planning and design for Tatu City. Previously, he worked with Centre for Urban and Regional Planning (CURP) and Planning Systems Services on several public and private projects including Urban Development Plans in Eldoret, Lamu, Kisumu and Nairobi.

Wamagata holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Landscape Architecture from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a Master of Arts Degree in Urban Planning from University of Nairobi, and a Master of Science in City Design and Social Science from The London School of Economics and Political Science.

Arnold’s experience in the construction industry includes infrastructure design and supervision, infrastructure visualization and quantification. A part-time infrastructure software trainer, Arnold uses the latest design software for efficiency of work and pre-determined construction outcomes for troubleshooting before onsite work commencement.

Arnold’s experience spans more than 10 years, working as a civil engineering consultant for Metrix, NM Engineering, K&P Engineering, Masfy Consultants Limited, North-tech Engineering and Kiambu County.

Arnold is a certified Autodesk professional and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi.

Shelmith Njagi

Shelmith manages the administrative functions of the Construction & Delivery unit, ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met.

Prior to Tatu City, Shelmith worked with the County Government of Kirinyaga as a Projects Officer, as well as with Civotech Associates, where she was tasked with the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment reports.

Previously, he served as the Head of Facilities and Project Management at Broll Property Group, where he oversaw and managed integrated facilities and project management services for leading multinational and local client accounts in the East African region. At Broll, Perminas honed his expertise in facilities projects planning and execution, budgeting and business development. Perminas has also previously worked in Pentawave East Africa as a consultant facilities and project manager and in Retriever East Africa as a Technical Client Support Supervisor.

Perminas holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and postgraduate qualifications in project management, health and safety

Peter Otieno

Peter is passionate about landscape designs and planting plans, turfgrass management, tree management, nursery management, signature gardening and plant husbandry. He brings into Tatu City more than 10 years’ experience in landscaping that cuts across large residential projects, golf courses and five-star hotels.

Prior to joining Tatu City, Peter worked at Vipingo Ridge, Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari Club and Muthaiga Golf Club.

Peter holds a Bachelor Degree in Landscaping from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and completed training in hospitality and business management from Cornell University (USA) through eCornell.

As Community Liaison Officer, he oversees the training of local youth in construction skills, the city’s labour desk and the matching of local community members with jobs at Tatu City.

Before joining Tatu City, Martin worked at the Kiambu County Assembly as a ward manager.

SEZ Operations Manager

As the SEZ Operations Manager, Thomas provides technical support to investors and stakeholders of Tatu City Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on matters related to SEZ operations, tax, customs and other statutory regulations. Thomas leads the Tatu City One-Stop Shop and serves as liaison between Tatu City SEZ clients and the government agencies.

Before joining Tatu City, Thomas worked as Project Manager and Customs Officer at diverse technical and managerial levels at the Kenya Revenue Authority for 15 years.

Thomas is a Certified Prince2 (Practitioner) Project Manager and holds MBA (Operations Management), Bachelor of Computer Science and Advanced Diploma in Project Management.

A veteran of Tatu City, Alex started his career with the company as an ICT engineer and rose to the Head of Utilities. Today, he is responsible for the management of power, water, waste and ICT infrastructure, leading a vibrant and dedicated team of water, electrical, and telecom engineers.

In addition to his role at Tatu City, Alex serves as Head of ICT for Rendeavour, the owner and developer of Tatu City and six other new city developments in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Alex holds a Bachelor of IT from Strathmore University and an MBA from Kenyatta University.

Prior to Tatu City, Moses worked for Ruiru Juja Water and Sewerage Company in the quality department and Transform Nations, an NGO, as an assistant program coordinator.

Prior to Tatu City, Claris worked at M-Kopa Solar as an Embedded Test Engineer and in the development team for the Solar Fridge.

Victor joined Tatu City from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), where he worked in operations and maintenance and new connections across Kenya for 13 years.

Victor trained at the Institute of Energy Studies and Research (KPLC training school).

Prior to Tatu City, Jane worked for Kenya Medical Research Institute as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Microbiology Research Laboratory. Jane holds a Professional Certification in Total Quality Management System and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Margaret joined Tatu City from Cytonn Investments Management LLP where she was the Executive Assistant and liaison to the Board of Directors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Communications & Sociology.
